Sargasso Update: San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize, October 20th, 2026

Sargasso, or sargassum, is a hot topic all over the Caribbean - it’s a natural phenomenon, and out of our control. It’s usually seasonal, with the brunt of it arriving over the summer.

There are a bunch of click-bait videos and Tik Toks out there, so we wanted to set the record straight: Sargasso comes and goes.
Usually by late fall and through spring, we have very little, to none.

Mother Nature has a mind of her own sometimes, but currently, all of the sargasso has pushed off of San Pedro!

Don’t believe us?

San Pedro Ambergris Caye Belize Sargasso Update

We have had a lot of rain recently, and it may have pushed the sargasso off towards the mainland of Belize.

Either way, we’re excited to see the water clearing up, and the beaches looking beautiful!

Even when sargasso is on the east coast of our island, the west coast doesn’t receive it, ever - and the island is only 1 mile wide at its widest point. You are never all that far from clear water and beaches!
