The Belize Zoo - a video tour

The self-proclaimed “Best Little Zoo in the World” is just that - you can tour the grounds in an hour if you hustle, or spend the day there.

The residents weren’t bred for captivity - they arrived due to being orphaned, injured, rescued from the illegal pet trade, or having been deemed nuisance animals. The Belize Zoo takes them in, cares for them, and provides education on why animals should stay wild.

All animals are native to Belize, so they are comfortable in our climate.

From jaguars to agouti, The Belize Zoo has them all!

The Belize Zoo is on the mainland, about a 45-60 minute drive from Belize City.

Our concierge can book a tour guide who will pick you up from the airport or water taxi and drive you to the zoo - plus other activities, if you wish! Options include visiting Mayan ruins, cave tubing, zip lining, and more!

Cool Beans Cafe - Breakfast and Lunch over the sea....

Seeking a breezy, overwater restaurant serving delicious and unique dishes?

Be sure to visit Cool Beans Cafe, on the Dreamcatcher Pier - immediately north of the San Pedro High School, in the Boca Del Rio area. MAP

Cool Beans is open from 5:30am to 5:30pm daily, with the exception of Wednesdays, when they stay open until 9pm for Sushi Night! They offer breakfast and lunch entrees open to close - this is fantastic when you have a group with different thoughts on what to eat.

We’d describe their food as “upscale cafe” - everything is fresh, and there are vegetarian and vegan options. From beach-inspired dishes, salads, seafood, sandwiches….smoothies, coffees and teas, and a bar serving up tropical drinks and wine. On Saturdays and Sundays, they offer “2-for-1” Margaritas ($18BZ for two!) and often have drink specials in rotation, as well as pitchers of sangria or loco coco available.

Cool Beans has a shaded dining area over the water, plus a second-story rail for drinks and snacks - it is in the sun, so be sure to bring sunscreen with you - but it has incredible views. We often see stingrays and tarpon from the deck!

NEW Photos and Virtual Tours for Sandcastle House

Now that it’s a slower time of year for tourism (but perhaps my favorite time to visit! No big crowds, lower rates, and LOBSTER!), we are updating photos for many of our properties, and shooting virtual tours.

This week, we’re sharing Sandcastle House in the Tres Cocos area, about 1/2 mile north of the bridge. It’s close enough to town to be convenient, yet in a more tranquil setting.

What makes Sandcastle so unique is it offers two, one-bedroom complete apartments, which can be rented individually or combined via a lock-off door if you have a larger group. The rentals span the first floor of the home.

Sandcastle is an oceanfront home with dock, so you can be picked up for tours or excursions right in your backyard! There is a pool and lounge furniture to enjoy the sea views.

The home is in an electronically-gated yard, meaning your cart is safe and secure.

You can walk to a handful of restaurants and bars, and a grocery store, for the ultimate in convenience.
